I photographed him as he mainlined fentanyl in a Denver alley I was warned to stay away from because it was full of bad mother******s and loads of drugs. The assessment within the warning was mostly accurate.
As he prepared the dope and spiked a vein, I learned he left his family, a wife and children, in Iowa.
“You ever think about going back to them?” I asked.
“Sure I do, but with my addiction I feel like a monster. They don’t need a monster.”
