"AGE"
AGE
Goldie perched herself on the fence of the A Bar G Motor Lodge, right beside a sign that read, “NO LOITERING OR TRESPASSING.”
She has worked Denver’s Colfax Avenue for decades. On the street, everyone who’s anyone knows her.
She told me about all her years hooking, and she gave me a bit of life advice.
I listened intently as I worked my camera.
Then Goldie got quiet, and finally with a serious voice said, “Let me ask you something.”
I lowered my camera. I looked into her eyes.
“Do I look old?”
“No,” I answered without hesitation. “You look fine as hell, Goldie.”
She smiled, with a hint of sadness, then said, “I sit on this fence every day.” She paused. “I get customers, but because of my age, I don’t get many.”
