Andrew shared, “I just got in. I was in San Bernardino. I came to Skid Row for the resources. I’ve already had a hot breakfast. They gave me two plates! And a banana. You can get everything you need here. Now, I’m going to charge my phone and return this umbrella to the kind woman that let me borrow it.”
Andrew walked away, to return the umbrella and to one of the many charging stations in Skid Row where he could charge his phone. As I stood in the rain this was perhaps the first time that I truly realized Skid Row is a stable population of thousands of homeless. All your basic needs can be met here, and there is a sense of community between Skid Row residents.
