"CHRISTIAN VAN"
CHRISTIAN VAN
In our exhaustion, my Doberman and I lumbered through a tough neighborhood. We were thirsty and hungry. My body reeked, my clothes saturated in sweat, my Levi’s denim and white T smeared with dirt and dotted with mysterious stains.
A big white van pulled up alongside us and a caring voice drifted our way. “Are you thirsty and would you like something to eat?” Before I had gathered the words for a response her hands extended my way with a sack full of food and drinks.
They sped away so my Doberman and I found shade and we devoured everything. The warm enormous breakfast burrito and the plastic bottle of cold white milk, the cookies, the potato chips, and the fruit snacks.
I had learned they were with Christ’s Body Ministries. They drive and give sacked food to those they find in need.
Days later, from my home, my eyes looked through the Book of Matthew and 25 42 stoked memories of the Christians in the big white van.
“For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then they will also answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it for me.’”
