"Growth in Ornament" by Zhanna Moskaliuk Toolen
Acrylic Painting
The work is made in the technique of traditional Petrykivka painting.
Red flowers represent love and joy, and berries symbolize abundance, well-being and fertility.
The flowers are made using the finger technique, and the frame of the berries is decorated with an element of Petrykivka painting, which is called a grain and is made with a brush made of cat fur, which was carefully collected near the ear.
The whole composition symbolizes a family tree, which tells about the history of its family.
Usually, the flowers on the tree are different in color, shape and size. Some flowers are still blooming, and some have already faded, just like the life of each person.
The tree unites the past, present and future. It is the Universe and is divided into three worlds, but at the same time it shows the duality of our world, the struggle between the material and spiritual components.
