Recycled T-Shirt Rug Workshop with Mary Saturday July 13th 12-4PM
In this workshop you'll learn the basics of crochet and how to transform your worn out favorite t-shirts into a modern heirloom rug. No experience crocheting is necessary, and the large stitches make this a perfect beginner project. Enough shirts to get you started will be provided, but please bring some of your own that you'd like to incorporate into your rug- that's what makes it special!
Some ideas for shirts to bring:
-Clothes that your kids have outgrown
-Shirts you love the color/pattern of that got a stain on them
-Undershirts that have seen better days
(For an added pop of color, you can dye them at home before the class with Rit Dye or natural dyes. This is a great way to make a rug that matches the room you want it to go in, and it's really easy. Pinterest and YouTube have lots of tutorials on how to do this.)
-Thrift store shirts in colors you love
-A shirt from each member of your family, and/or one from each of your friends
-School/sports shirts you no longer wear but can't stand to part with
-Tie dye shirts for a painterly, colorful rug
-Dresses made of t-shirt fabric
-All the shirts you just plain don't wear anymore
Keep in mind that we'll be cutting these up to use them, so pictures on the shirt won't show- and make sure it's okay with your family and friends before you cut up their clothes!
