Andrea Abler
I am a Los Angeles-based painter with an educational background in history and mathematics. I am also a
woman. Banish Misfortune is part of an ongoing series of paintings that highlight the diversity of the female
experience that is historically overlooked and under-appreciated. The works combine minimalist female silhouettes with intricate and colorful patterns inspired by traditional geometries. Creating this series involves in-
depth research into folk art and the roles and portrayals of women in ancient cultures throughout the world.
Another of my most recent series of works, including Witching Hour and The Lantern Man, is inspired by
fairytale, folklore, and the supernatural. In our modern, science-driven world, it's becoming increasingly
challenging to explore these profound and ancient aspects of the human experience. Crafting pieces inspired by
these elements connects me with the cultures, locales, and belief systems that form the foundation of modern
humanity.
