A wonderful gift to AVA, Gorman’s Monarch displays 69 rich variations of color of vermillion, violet, blues, and more in the seated young Navajo woman contemplating a lovely monarch butterfly perched upon a stalk of bachelor buttons. This lovely image is 19" x 25" encased in a tasteful multi-wood frame 36" x 31". Monarch is currently on display at AVA and available for bidding online at https://gormanatava.ggo.bid/bidding/package/13464518 through June 28th at 7pm.

Celebrating the Gift of Art
A new fundraising program in support of art access for our community.
One very generous supporter of AVA has donated a fabulous and colorful original lithograph by a famous Southwest artist in order to raise funds. The visionary R.C. Gorman created beautiful, unique paintings since the early 1960’s, winning numerous awards and hanging in countless U.S. and overseas galleries. Sometimes called ‘eccentric’, Gorman lived large and became known for his sense of vibrant color, composition, confidence and humor. His commitment to perfection is illustrated in his own style of rounded, brilliantly vivid female Navajo subjects, while often incorporating natural objects into his focused, unified scenes. Always fresh, crisp, defined and refined, his paintings spell-cast viewers.

“I have been using the design motifs of Indian rugs and pottery for my paintings because one day these things are going to be no more. They are going to be lost and it is going to happen soon.” R. C. Gorman
“He was the Picasso of American Indian artists” Notes on People-New York Times 1979
Monarch demonstrates the richness of color, style and form that the artist is known for. Gorman channeled the strong females of his Navajo upbringing and life, all the while maneuvering diverse use of color. He captures the beauty, grounding and spirit of Taos. In this lithograph, the forward leaning woman begs the attention focus upon the glorious butterfly
This Monarch signed, numbered original lithograph by R. C. Gorman is the first 100% donated art piece given to AVA by a generous supporter. Interested in the future of AVA, this donor helped establish our diversification. We greatly appreciate him and all donors and supporters of AVA!
The donated artwork is a signed limited edition stone lithograph, number 52 in a series of 175 prints, and is valued at $6,500, as described by Bob Sahd, Gallery Representative for the R. C. Gorman Estate and Navajo Gallery in Taos, NM.
