Known for his seascapes and Western themes, self-taught American artist William Hoffman was born in Montana in 1924. Finding painting later in life, after his first visit to an art gallery, he began to seek art as a career in his forties. His first paintings were seascapes of the Pacific, which capture its tranquil beauty.
He spent a number of years continuing this theme and crafting his art before turning to studies of the West.
